Mildred: Here's a beautiful Aurora. Awesome. Especially if you can hear the swish, swish and crackling in the sky. This one was taken by Fredrik Broms, Kvaløya, Norway Dec. 28, 2010 *http://tinyurl.com/37akzw5 astronomy

Mildred: LUNAR ECLIPSE : Our northern winter is beginning with a total lunar eclipse on Dec. 21st. Only one previous instance of an eclipse matching the same calendar date as the solstice has been found in the records dating back 2000 years, and that is 1638 DEC 21 *http://tinyurl.com/2w8omb4 astronomy

Mildred: Big meteor shower on now. If you have clear skies you may see between 15 and 20 meteors per hour. Awesome! *http://tinyurl.com/29dooab astronomy

Mildred: Bragging rights in the outer solar system may have shifted over the weekend. Pluto might have just regained its status as the largest object in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy bodies beyond Neptune. *http://tinyurl.com/2eumrpt astronomy

Mildred: I like Psalm 19 where the 1st two verses state: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." And, I really don't think cosmology and I will get along too well here (or anywhere for that matter). :) *http://tinyurl.com/2d73efv astronomy

phmoisan: Here's an article at Apsense titled "Online calculator now works out with an asteroid impact". I'm inviting people to read it there and discuss it here. *http://tinyurl.com/346gu7j astronomy

phmoisan: I'm not very much interested in backyard astronomy, I'm more like the guy who discovered Neptune through calculations, when someone invited him to see it and confirm his findings, he responded "I don't have to look, I know it's there". I love cosmology. I guess it's ok to post here about that *http://tinyurl.com/39wgd84 astronomy

Mildred: As expected, coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field on August 3rd. Sky watchers in Europe as far south as Germany are reporting red and green Northern Lights. People in North America might see a similar display. Kooiii shares interesting things :) *http://tinyurl.com/22u7afo astronomy

Mildred: NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded a complex global disturbance on the Earth-facing side of the sun Aug. 1 . . . a coronal mass ejection (CME) is heading toward Earth. High-latitude geomagnetic storms and auroras are possible when the cloud arrives a few days hence. *http://tinyurl.com/2fwn8ph astronomy
